ABOUT
The aim of any good therapist is not to make decisions for you, but to help you understand yourself well enough to make decisions you truly back. Ones that reflect your values. And most importantly - your nervous system.
Hi, I’m Guy.
I am a PACFA-accredited counsellor and psychotherapist, queer contributor and educator. I founded WAKE out of a need to support those brave enough to enter the therapy space, regardless of their difference. To stand alongside those prepared to express their inner world to ultimately work towards a life that is values lead and aligned to their persons needs, not by social expectations. A life informed by their lived experiences and wake.
With a particular interest in queer folk, relationship therapy and neurodivergent communities, my approach draws on evidence-based psychodynamic models such as Attachment Theory, Solution-Focused Therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy, Trauma Informed Practices and Gottman’s theories.
Although these models are vital, what is equally, if not more important, are the people in the room and their willingness to show up, be brave and share. Respecting and cultivating the therapeutic relationship is my number one priority.
I am also not a full-time therapist. I am a Therapist and Educator who balances and maintains two passions plus my own important relationships and self-care. This allows me to provide the best care to both my clients and myself. I, too, still undergo therapy and will continue to do so as I also manage my own mental health and life challenges, which are part and parcel of the human condition and all that life throws in our direction.
My personal lived experiences undoubtedly have contributed to my approach to my work. Being queer, neurodivergent and living with chronic, invisible illnesses, I understand the true importance of seeking support, building a team that can provide the scaffolding required to move through life and cultivating authentically fulfilling relationships.
I, too, walk through the world sometimes, not knowing and feeling utterly lost, but it is this honesty and humility I aim to bring into the therapy space.
If this introduction strikes a cord - or you’re compelled to start your therapy journey and see if we align - let’s chat.
